The African Bee Farmers Union (ABFU) plays a vital role in the apicultural development in Africa, specifically in promoting and expanding bee farming activities in the case of Cross River State in Nigeria, ABFU focuses on several important areas:

  1. Training and capacity building:

African BeeFarmers Union provides training programs to bee farmers in Cross River State, equipping them with knowledge and skills in beekeeping techniques, hive management, honey extraction, and value addition.

This helps improve the quality and quantity of honey production.

  1. Access to resources: African BeeFarmers Union, ABFU facilitates access to resources such as high-quality bee colonies, suitable beekeeping equipment, and protective clothing for bee farmers in Cross River State.

By providing these resources, ABFU supports the establishment and expansion of bee farms.

  1. Research and development: The African BeeFarmers Union, conducts research on best practices in beekeeping and apicultural development specific to the local conditions in Cross River State.

This research helps to identify innovative techniques, disease control measures, and sustainable approaches to bee farming.

  1. Market linkages: ABFU works to establish market linkages between bee farmers in Cross River State and local, regional, or international honey buyers, ensuring that the bee farmers have access to markets and fair prices for their products.

This promotes economic sustainability for the farmers and encourages the expansion of bee farming activities.

  1. Advocacy and policy support: The African BeeFarmers Union, advocates for favourable policies and regulations that support the growth of bee farming in Cross River State, such as abolition of indiscriminate Bush burning and illegal bees porches.

By engaging with government bodies and relevant stakeholders, Goddy JD Agba, Dr. Abu Undiyaundeye, Dr. Joseph Ugbe of the Forestry Commission, Ambassador Soni Abang, Hon. Jude Ogbeche Ngaji and my very self, Ambassador Agim Godwin Apple. ABFU aims to create an enabling environment for beekeepers, including access to land, credit facilities, and infrastructure.

Through these various activities, the African Bee Farmers Union contributes to the overall development and expansion of bee farming in Cross River State and across Africa, benefiting bee farmers, the environment, and the economy as a whole.

We look forward to welcoming you on your interest by going into beekeeping for the benefits of the society.
